I have a Fluval 305 on my 3 foot 180 litre but a friend said to me last night that she has a big tank (approx 5 foot) on a stand and it's mine for free. Got to go and look at it first to make sure it's ok and it may need re-sealing but my question is would my 305 be enough for a 5 foot tank ?

Jammy git, 5ft free tank!!!

The 305 works up to 300l.

It may be bigger she doesn't know it's been in her cellar for a couple of years . I think ill have to just get it re-sealed to be on the safe side I'm going to measure it up tomorrow so will know for sure on the volume.

If my 305 won't cope could I use it to start other while I sort a better filter out ? Because basically I will need to move my 3ft out the room to fit the 5ft in so I wanted to empty it and put everything straight in the 5ft

If you're keeping your current stock and not adding to it then it should be fine. If you want to add to it then you will eventually need more filtration.

Looking at the stock you have at the moment I would say upgrade the filter and up the number of fish in your schools like the rummynoses up to atleast 10, tetra's are most often happy in larger groups. I think you could use that filter in tandom with the upgrade while the upgrade cycles. :good:

Well my friend must have been drunk when they said it was 5 foot ..... It was 3 x 1 x 1.5 so I've turned it down the tank was in very very poor condition and would Definatly needed to be re-sealed and a crack in one pane. Gutted :( had got loads of ideas for a 5 foot
