ok so you probably have seen the post below this one with my female with the bars and my male. my question is: do the females like the male/ want to breed if they have the bars and are flaring at the male? i know the flaring can be good or bad. i will not be using LeeAnn first, but i will use Candy. my other new female does the same- flare/ has bars (her bars are lame though. she has one big bar and one or 2 small ones. pic below)
her bars were fading but you get the point ;)

my other question is how old do bettas have to be to breed? how old is to old to breed?

thanks!

If your female exhibits the zig zag more or less vertical bars, she is ready to go. If you have a suitable male, bring them together and turn your back on them. The reason I suggest that you turn away is that the fish will likely do each other some superficial damage before they get down to business. Although Betta splendens breeds readily, they are not very nice about courting and caring for each other. Instead you might think that they are enemies who have come together simply because they feel that they must in order to bring forth fry. That thought process will help you understand what you see when you watch them interact with each other.

ok thanks!
so if the female has bars and the male is ready and i put them together and the rip eachother to pieces, are they not a good pair, or do i wait a while and the will eventually spawn?

A properly prepared pair will not rip each other apart. After a short period of sparring they will begin the mating process.
