Fishless Cycling

well i started my fishless cycling a week ago i set up my biorb put my media and warter pluss warter solutions in and after a week the warter still was not crystal clear so today i emptyed it out and filled with fresh warter again as i dont think i washed the media enough last time, will it be a case of starting again or will i only have to leave my biorb fishless for anougher three weeks? thanx guy's

Cloudy water is normal for a newly filled tank, happens for different periods of days during the first few weeks. If its not dust settling from the new gravel/sand then (and more often its this) its what we call a bacterial bloom. Its caused by heterotrophic bacteria in the water who are multiplying quickly because the water has been dechlorinated/dechloraminated.

Have you read our pinned articles in the "Beginners Resource Center" Louis? The first articles you need are those about a thing called the "Nitrogen Cycle" and about tank startup and then the most important one is our working article on "Fishless cycling," in particular about the add&wait method. Its the article written by rdd1952. Have you found any pure household ammonia yet?

i will have a good read of them articals thanx warterdrop and i have not maneged to get any ammonia yet iver but there is a shop i know of im gunna giv a try 2morow hopfully they will have some :good:
