i was just wondering - if you go fishing in a freshwater lake and catch some freshwater fish, could you put them in your aquarium?

There are lots of do's and dont to this, and i couldnt possibly go into enough detail as i dont have enough experience in doing it (non in fact), but the general idea is that if you are providing them with a suitable tank with suitable water parameters and inhabitants, its fine to do. HOWEVER;

They should NEVER go back to the wild. You could be introducing diseases foreign to the envinroment they came from, and it can wipe out entire fish populations as they wont have the necessaries to deal with it.

I own a carp lake and i wouldn't remove any from the lake and place into a home aquarium with other fish, there is no telling what diseases they might be carrying. Which is a shame, because the Tench and Crucian Carp spawned this summer and there where thousands of 50 pence sized fish gobbing around

mind you, upon saying that, if you got a 2nd tank to act as a quarantine tank for a few months, i dont see why not. main tank would have to be big though, like, real big for carp, they grow fast

i cant see why not i had afew stickel back from a steam by mine =] put them in my cold water tank for abit then moved them into the pond

if its not legal you can allways just take 1 or 2? rules are there to be broken =D

What's your lake fish like bud ??

They top out at around 30lb but its kinda setup as a match fishery, we rent it out to the local angling club for £x a year.
