I didn't know they were poisonous I'm hoping to never get barbed by a catfish period, none the less a poisonous one

a 55g standard should be fine for a RTBS.. that's a good 4 feet long, 1 foot wide. Is it column style or something?

I've never been told that. I've been told that 55 standard is minimum. The only thing 75 gal offer is extra width, which is only beneficial for larger fish like oscars and severums. A RTBS only gets like 6 inches long. they would still have plenty of turning room.

You may be right on them being too aggressive for your stock, though. But it does depend on the individual.

hmmm.... i wonder if maybe i should give it a try... i do have my quarantine tank that i could put it in if it turns out to be a meanie... i'll have to get some more opinions on that though. i do love the little buggers though!

It depends, really. Also keep in mind all the loaches and cories you already have, RTBS are territorial, it wouldn't take kindly to any fish in its hidey holes.

My friends dad had one when I was a kid, along with a mahoooosive common plec and something else. The tank was at least 15+ft long, 5ft high and 5ft wide. I never really wanted one myself but when my LFS started selling them my girlfriend said she would like one. Quick search on google I thought would change her mind but it didn't. She said "we could take it back when it got too big" I did feel like shaking her. Who could house one of those properly? Really? In northern Ireland especially.
I try and try with my mothers husband telling him his stocking isn't suitable. 160ltr tank, common plec, one clown loach, red tailed black shark, four kribs, four angels, three rams, two corydoras, and a good few scissor tails. I know nothing though. Thankfully I only have to see the tank once or twice a year.

I did like sword tails and tiger barbs when I first got into fishkeeping. Not sure why I went off the swords.

I've never seen a red tailed cat in our LFS's before, actually.

I wanted swordtails when I first started too, but they were always sold out with the males, so I never got any, since the females IMO are kinda ugly.

wanted some tiger barbs coz they were supposed to be only semi aggressive - after watching their antics i decided that i might want to rethink!!

Love the look of them and their activity level. Instead I have a very peaceful tank, and am quite pleased with it.

I wanted clown loaches. I had one for a few weeks, but then I was told that they require large shoals and a 6ft tank. I took the little guy back I really want a big shoal of them, but I do not have an adequate tank for them.

When I first ever started fish keeping, I saw a white pangasius in my lfs, was going to get it but thought I should research it first,
Found it how big they grew, I was relieved and upset

I would love a fresh water stingray, and almost got one for myself until reason. and the fact I just have no room for a stingray stopped me. I would still love to get one, but I might have to settle for a fresh water sole instead.

I've also been toying with the idea of getting some hoplo catfish but my tanks are pretty full of cory's and loaches so another fish to wait longer for.

I wanted ANOTHER male Betta but I'm glad I didn't get him, I already have enough fish to deal with on a weekly basis
