Fish Pics

^That explains the nest moving. Not something I would know as all mine have happened in their permanent homes. And yes, Sylvia, I will do my best to help where I can. Not sure I'm all that much help but nevermind.

thanks oh as for the 2 im trying to are a gold and a opaline as you both pointed out all my golds are females and im near shore both the opaline are male i think the pair in there are a good match but i am watching them cuz im not shore if the gold is old anuth cuz shes not as big as the other female s of the other typs i have i think shes just old anuth but i may be wrong there been no attacks just chaseing now and then but from time to time they act realy peace full as well the male is keeping his nest in order by makeing more bubbles and looking it over now and then its funny the other ones that had fry with out me noing i could not stop breeding when they had one lot i moved them cuz i new they would eat the babys then when they were in the other tank they had more fry sighs they in the end i think had most of there babys from the second batch for dinner..........................i just looked over at the tank the males at the nest the females at the other end of the tank away from him do u think this means they will not breed?

It sounds like she isn't particularly interested and doesn't feel ready to breed just yet. It's best to put her back in the main tank for a while as she'll get stressed if she stays in the tank with the male all the time.

Leave her for a while until she's looking bigger and clearly fatter. She'll also probably start acting more interested in her male tankmates at that point so you'll know she's ready. Then you can move her to the breeding tank again and put a male in with her and she should breed then.

Right now the male you are using deffinately seems to be in the mood to spawn. Like I said before, you'd have better luck if you moved the female back to the main tank and used a fatter female instead.

If you are only interested in breeding from this particular female, you're just going to have to wait a little longer. Still, you should realy seperate the pair if they aren't breeding now as the male will stress the female out.

Miss Dib Dabs - of course you are a help! There is so much useful advice you've posted! Besides, you probably own the most three-spot friendly three-spots ever :p (if you know what I mean)

:*) Awww now I'm embarrassed. You're right though. To have a tank with the male and females all living happily together is nothing short of wonderful. And the fact that they leave alot of the fry alone (Unless they're particularly short tempered at the time. ) And the fact that one female acts as a nursemaid when the fry are young, whether hers or not is miraculous. I am very proud of them. I only hope their babes will be as friendly and well adjusted.
Fizban, Sylvia is right on this. Take the lady out. She will get upset and so will the male. It's frustrating for him if she's not ready and ultra stressful for her. Why not try the gravid looking female instead? No harm in trying since the male is eager. And if she's not ready either then don't worry about it for a little longer.

yep i made my mind up last night realy that i would take them back to the big tank cuz i think the males starting to get mad at her no harm yet but i think only a matter of time if she stays i realy only wish to breed the gold and a opaline cuz i want to see what the fry will look like and i no i will be abl to find a home for at least one more lot of fry but im not shore if the peepl i have in mind would take 2 more lots so its best i wait ....its funny how difrent they act in the big tank its like there best friends and just hang rownd each other just like looking at each other from time to time i think it would be funny to no what there realy thinking some times ..............i feel sorry for the male cuz he has been trying soooo hard and his nest has never gone down he has made she its allways ready sighs poor guy

do gold gouramis and a opaline s grew to the same size???? oh and the last pair that did breed was one of the ones you both said was male i thort it was the female but i probly am wrong cuz it was bigger then the other but thats the strang thing if thats right it means the female was the small one and the small one was the one chaseing the big one do females chase males ?????it was funny but cuz i have a sea shell in my tank that i made in to a little cave the big one would slide in side ways to get away from the little one cuz it could not fit throo the opening if was just swiming strate but when it was in there it could straten its self and it would look out from the hole and watch the other one  thats why i thort the big one was female but as i said befor it was one of the big brown ones both u said was a guy any info on this would be good

Yes, opalines and golds grow to the same size - same goes for all other three-spot (trichogaster trichopterus) color morphs.

Females do chase males around if they feel like it but it's usualy the other way round. Also, size doesn't realy make a difference unless both are the same sex though, of course, smaller fish tend to get bullied more over-all as they end up lower down in the hierarchy. Having said that, this isn't always the case.

Can you say which picture the brown gourami is that you were talking about (the one you thought was female but we said was male)?

this was the pic but i think i will take a better pic cuz i dont think the top fin is realy a good way to tell from the way it was taken here cuz its fin was lieing down as well http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c331/jaz...82/fishh214.jpg
its realy the biggest of my three spots cuz it was one of the first in the tank i should realy have a name for it cuz its one that stands out in the tank and swims rownd like it thinks the tanks all for him/her but not a bully way more like going rownd and looking down on the other thinking im better then them i dont need to bother proveing it kind of way :D its got a ruther big body from above but that maby cuz its bigger then the rest and i feed my fish a heap not too much but realy near to being too much so no one miss out

Your girls fin will grow back. Queenie is regularly torn during the courting/mating act. Spawning with 3 spots can be an aggressive business. Oddly he seems more aggressive with her then the others. It's probably a personailty thing. With the youngest girl, who has yet to start producing eggs he is as gentle as anything. She actually lives right next to his territory and no other girl has gotten away with that. Thin he loves her really.
Glad to hear you'll get some recompense for the fry when they're old enough. But by the time you take into account how long it takes to raise them to a decent size, all the food, water, dechlor etc etc you aren't making money really. But it is nice to know that someone is willing to pay. After all every little helps. ;)
Plants are always good. They love lots of them. Gouramies like knotted undergrowth to swim through. They will even turn on their sides to get through thicker patches. I suspect it's also what makes them so successful in the wild since fry have plenty of places to hide. Very little can move as fast through such thick undergrowth as a young gourami.
Best of luck with the spawning. Hope it all goes well.

P.
