hey guys, just joined the forums looks like a really good place to get information.. :D i really want to start keeping tropical fresh water fish, iv kept afew goldfish in the past but you know... the challinge isnt thier. My budget is about £250 for tank fish decor... everthing! So i need suggestions from tank to theme to fish! Iv got some books and researched a little but i felt it would be better asking people with real expirence!

Thanks in advance

Tom

The main questions are....

1) How big is the biggest tank you can go?
2) Do you mind second hand?
3) Community tank or not?

ok just what sort of fish and theme would you like?
tropical?
cold water?... etc.
i could possibly hel;p you with the fish but because im not situated in the same place im not sure if i can help with the tank and decor and things.

community begginer :)

well iv got a buget of about £250, iv been doing some looking and tanks of about 120 - 180 litres are coming up in that range, no i dont mind second hand... as long as it works! :X and im not sure, probably yes

im not sure what would you advise. i want some fish that are relativly easy to keep to get me started.

Hey ,
I would recommend very hardy fish to start with ,maybe some platys. Try to get fish that are easy to keep to start with , i learned this the hard way. Try and find fish that you like and research them to make sure they are the right fish for you.

yea, i will, i just need to find the right size tank for my budged, the size isnt an issue realy i got a whole wall to occupy (about 6 feet)!

You're in a good position . I think a community tank would be best, but since you've got all that space, you can get a nice big tank for your budget. Have a look in your local freeads, see what tanks are in there with all the equiptment (as that's normally what eats into your money), and see what fish catch your eye.

Thanks iv seen a 4 foot one for £120 in the paper so i might go and check that out tomorrow or sometime. Would you advise starting with a planted tank or stick to plastic and silk?

I think you should save your money for another year or so and get a really big tank like 75 gallons or more. I know I've never been satisfied with the size of my tank.. bigger is better =) That'll give you lots and lots of time to set up exactly what tank you want as well as read the begginers forum so you can avoid all the basic newbie mistakes most of us made. Larger tanks tend to be more stable and they are more forgiving. I think you should set up a 125 gallon shell dwelling cichlid tank. =)

great news!! :D :D the guy that lives two doors down from me sold me a juwel rekord 120 for £30 filter light heater the lot... im getting a sand substrate, just need ideas on plants, themes fish now!
