My husband did cycle it a long time ago, but he hasn't done it recently. I know you are supposed to do it when it is a new tank, but didn't know how often it showed be done.

Just once if you keep the same filter and went with a fishless cycle.

If you done a fish in cycle though, you will only build enough bacteria to cope with the amount of fish you have, so if you then add more fish, it can't cope and that's when you start getting high ammonia.

That's when you NEED to keep testing the water and more than likely, do daily water changes until the filter catches up.

Looks like no ammonia but it shows ph level is just a little low. They said to put some salt in the tank, but the last few test the ph levels were just fine. We have done several partial water changes. Should we do a complete water change and wash allplants and gravel in case the is a parasite or disease in the tank? No signs of ich though..

PH doesn't have anything to do with it.

You need to know your levels for

Ammonia
Nitrite
And Nitrate

This is your first port of call before you do anything. Small water changes won't harm.

Oh that is the very first thing we did. We tested it and 2 pet stores tested it. Nitrates are perfect and amonia is at 0..
We finally gave up emptied tank and re did the entire thing.. So we will see.. Thank for all your help
