Fish Id Help

[Midnight Rose]

I wasn't sure where to put this!

I recently bought some hatchet fish, they were taken out of a tank that had other species in it and when I got home there was another fish in the bag with them that neither I nor the shop had noticed. The problem is that I don't know what fish it is (my knowledge is limited) and I don't want this fish to be unhappy here.


Here is the best photo I could get as it's fast swimming. It is silver, with large eyes and a black dot on the base of the dorsal fin.

I have a 4' tank with some planting that has been up and running (exactly how it is now) for nearly 3 years.

if you can get some more pictures it would help alot try to google Rasbora and see if any are similar....have a look at Rasbora dorsiocellata

It'll be embarrassing if it is! The little fish you can see in a shoal in the whole tank photo are x-ray tetra!!

ETA: It doesn't have the yellow bit at the base of the dorsal fin. I will try and get more photos but it's not easy!!

thats a Marbled Hatchet fish.

im probably wrong cause knowbody else has suggested it but from first glance i thought a tinfoil barb

It's not an x-ray tetra. It hasn't got the red blush tail fin or the yellow bands on the dorsal fin and the pelvic fin isn't marked/coloured at all. It's also big, bigger than the silver hatchets.

More pictures (it's very fast so very hard to photograph and I only have a bog standard camera)

It's got a touch of white spot, I'm just going to hook it out and treat it (I have inverts in the main tank so can't treat it there).

It's got the dorsal fin like a Pristella, but it looks different in shape. Wierd
