Fish Food

Just curious to know if dried blood worms are as nutrious as frozen?

imho
No, they create far more digestiv problems than live or frozen do.

Dried supposedly loses some of it's nutrition. Also dried floats, so fish that prefer sinking foods will miss out.

Hmmm thanks, I was thinking about using an auto feeder while we are away in March (7 days) maybe I'd better see if I can find someone to come and feed them for me instead.

If you are only gone for 7 days, I would not worry about feeding the fish. Fish can usually last several weeks without feeding. Fasting will help clean out it's system anyways. If you feel uneasy, just have someone come in to feed in the middle of the week. Give them a small container of the food with the proper amount. Do not give them the regular fish food container, since they can overfeed the fish.

You're kidding right? Not feed them for a week? Are sure about that? They allways seem to be starving when I feed them everyday, well actually twice a day, morning and evening.

I've left my fish for a little over a week before and they are perfectly fine. Most fish can go a while without eating.

hey, fish are like 18 year olds......always hungry!

Not kidding. Many people do this. They will be fine for a week.

What about one of those feeding block things? Can I put one of them in there to make myself feel better?

This is excellent advice.

I bought a 7 day pill container and pre-measured the desired amount and it worked great while I was out of town.

I put some gel like feeder blocks in my tanks when I went away for about 9 days and when I got back they hadn't touched them! They were all fine, just incredibly hungry!!!

The longest I left mine was for 12 days while on vacation. I came back home; they ate like there was no tomorrow, but I slowly increased the feeding back to normal over the course of a few days. I don't know if I needed to do this; it just seemed to be a good idea. I only did it that long that once, but have left them for a week at a time many times after that. I never lost a fish. This was years ago when I traveled frequently. I'd always do a water change prior to leaving.

Fish can go weeks without food. I've left mine for two weeks and they were fine. Do you think they get served a platter of food consistently in the wild? Those feeder blocks, made mostly of plaster of paris, foul up the water in short order and will cause more harm than good. So if it were me that wouldn't make me feel better at all.

Also remember to hide the container of food. They might say oh look they're still hungry let's dump the whole thing in there. Or not meaning to dump the whole thing in the tank, they do it accidentally while trying to pour it straight from the container. Now, do they know how to gravel vac?

LoL Sammie, I'm still learning how to gravel vac!

Ok pass on the food block, I'll just give the neighbour a measure of food to feed them mid-week.

Thanks to everyone for the advice, much appreciated.
