Fish Food

yeah most community fish will be fine for up to 2 weeks without food. remember a lot of them would live on the brink of starvation in the wild

for holidays you should do a water change the night before you go.
you need to remember the most important thing is not to do anything that could upset the water chemistry while your not there to fix it, so resist the urge to give a big feed before you go, it'll just mean the fish mess more and your water quality could deteriorate, same with those feeding blocks.
turn the tank lights off while your away, or if you have real plants reduce the photoperiod a bit. fish are more active in the light and with the lights off they will use less energy so survive without food for longer, sort of like hibernation
for feeding, if you want to get an automatic feeder do, but they're unreliable so make sure you test it by runing it for a week or so before you go.
if you can get someone to come in, just every couple of days is fine, prepare daily portions of food wrap them up in foil and instruct them to just put 1 of these portions in when they visit.
if you can't get anyone in, then your fish should be ok for up to 2 weeks, however some fish won't so you should post your stocking to make sure

They'll be fine. They'll potentially nibble on your plants depending on species, and most will each algae and other little stuff.

If you want to have someone else feed them occassionally when you're gone be sure to only give them the amount of food the fish need. Measure it out, put in a bag or other container.

I've gone over the regiment with multiple roommates, had them watch me feeding, say feed them this much, wrote out directions, etc. Each time I've come home to brown water, multiple algae wafers in the bottom (i only feed 1 per day), dead fish, snail overruns, etc.

Thanks for the advice everyone, my Mum is going to come over once and my neighbour will feed them once. So all will be well. Thanks again:)

May I respectfully point out that us humans could go two weeks without food but certainly would not want to and certainly one post pointing out that they ate like crazy after 12 days would indicated that they were very hungrey and therefore, in the wild would have gone and found food long before that. I wouldn't recommend anyone no feeding there fish for a week, they may survive but is it fair to leave them hungrey??? And what about filter failure???? fish death would result in toxifying the water????

Someone could be prosectured for leaving there dog for that amount of time and would survive but be hungrey, do our beloved fish deserve any less???????????
