First Time Water Test?

ok that's good, no nitrites in the tap water

ammonia and nitrates are the things most commonly found occasionally in tap water

Don't know -why- (especially after 3 50% changes! done fairly close in time?) nitrite is not being diluted but unfortunately, the goal doesn't change. Nitrite(NO2) needs to not ever go over 0.25ppm if at all possible.

good luck, must run,

Very strange that 3 x 50% w/c didnt move the nitrIte at all? Are you still using the strip tests? If so, I think you need to invest in a liquid test kit, because in theory that nitrIte should have come down to at a bare minimum 0.50.

They are the liquid based testers,API FRESHWATER MASTER TESTER KIT.

I do the tests then rinse the test tubes out under the tap, then rinse them with some tank water, then allow to dry before putting the lids back on.I do not think i am leaving any traces of solution in any of them.

no, that sounds fine - trace water droplets in the test tube should not effect the next reading - five ml of test water should overwhelm any effect of trace tap or tank water.

I've found that for some reason both nitrite and nitrate can somehow seem to stick around despite water changes - not all the time, just some of the time. I have never known whether there is any reasonable explanation for that. Eventually though, water changes -should- dilute them.
