First Time... Platy

I am in no concern about Ick. I use aquarium salt and only feed home Bred live food. im not concerned about ick.

I just want to know how to take care of them!!!
does anybody even know? 8)

Maybe you should get a few cories. Just a thought. Caring for platies is fairly easy. Just provide them with a varied diet, a few hiding places as well as swimming space and they will pretty much look after themselves. Keep the tank clean and as above, get platies at a male/female ratio of 1:2 or similar. They will breed about every four weeks. They will be fine with your betta, but like I said, I would advise you to get a few more cories.

That's pretty much all you need to know.

can i use the fry as food for other fish?

No special care needed. They really are easy and pretty hardy. Mine have never had any problems and eat whatever I give them. Mostly flake with the occasional bloodworm treat. If you just leave them in a community tank most of the fry will become fish food but some of them may survive.

I mean... like... when i capture the fry, can i feed them to the other fish?

If they will eat them then yes you can. What fish did you want to feed them to?

I've not got any platies yet (i'm thinking about getting some) but from what i've read the babies wont last too long in a community tank before the parents and other tank mates eat them.

just to the betta and the other platys.

would the platys be comfortable with different types of platys? Example: a mickey mouse platy with a galaxy platy (or whaterver its called) with they breed together?

I want to get 3 platys 2males 1 female. but I want them all to be different species but still breed together

what kind should I get? I really prefer smaller ones

From what i've read if you keep different colour platies together they will breed and you will get random colour babies that are mixes of the parents. One platy doesn't care what colour the other one is so long as they can mate

As far as i know both the Betta and Platies will eat babies, although sometimes they won't, it depends on the individual fish really.

cool thanks. I just have to find a place that sells quality fish. All the places around me have half dead fish even places that speacialize in aquariums!!!

different colours will breed but if getting 3 you wan 2FEMALE and 1MALE otherwise you'll end up with a dead female.
as for the keeping other fish with bettas it depends on the individual betta, some you can keep with most fish others tolerate none. if you do get the platy i suggest you return the cory as they prefer to be in groups of 6+

I got ya, do they like salt in the water? how much?

platys do perfectly fine without salt, but i think they can tolerate it but never done it myself so can't advice on amounts

mollies are the ones that require a bit of salt... my platys do really fine without it

my aquarium is planted... so i do the "survival of the fittest" theory in my tank

a week or two ago, my female platy gave birth and 1-2 days later i only found 3 platy frys that survived

so right now the 3 are in my trap
