i have a heavily planted 40ltr community tank with 4 ember tetra's, 4 galaxy rasbora, 4 pygmy corries, aload of cherry shrimp and some MTS.

i have been on the look out for a nice betta for about a month, in the end my lfs got a nice (i think delta) mustad gas betta in. i had to get him a bit sooner than i wanted because some else came in wanting him (but wanted the lfs to hold him for 3 weeks). pratical fish keeping also tried to get some nice pics of him but failed.

Anyway he went in monday night and so far there has been no trouble. the other fish get out of his way sharpish if he even looks at them.

i have never seen a similar betta. been keeping an eye out at two of my lfs and ebay but nothing came close, he did cost £15 but he is well worth it.
at the minute he is so laid back, hope it continues. does spend allot of time near the bottom of the tank in the plants, i thought they liked the top layers of the tank, i also covered 50% of the surface area with floating plants to give him top cover, Indian leaf going in tomorrow.

i do have a couple of questions

1: i feed my fish frozen bloodworm once a week, every other day they get nutrafix max flakes and sinking pellets for the shrimp/corries. i have checked and non of the food is dried and frozen. i also checked the ingredients of the nutrafin stuff compared to the JBL betta food and its the same. i am safe to use my nutrafin stuff with the betta, if not how do i make sure the betta gets his food.

2: i use JBL 24h plant drops everyday, (1 drop). i can't find an ingredient listing anywhere for it. will this be ok with my betta?

3: i have wanted to add a few more corries but my lfs have not had any for a month. went back in today and they have had a new batch. can i safely add these. read that adding new fish after a betta can be asking for trouble?

thanks

He is lovely!

very nice tank you have too!

he's nice but wouldn't say mustard gas, unless it's just the light. Nice yellow boy.

They are fine on blood worm, go crazy for it. Personally, I am not a fan of flakes, nutrient wise but I feed a mixture of pellets etc, personal choice really.

In the 40ltr, i personally wouldn't add anymore cories, let alone, any more fish. You could tip the bio load scales but again, my personal opinion.

Beth is right; mustard gas is purple and yellow.

My girl was a "chocolate betta" or a "pineapple betta" - I could never decide which she was. Do a google search of both and see what you come up with.

well last night i fed them for the first time since adding the betta. i wanted everybody to settle together before adding something that could trigger a scrap (food). it was good to see them all behave and also the betta eat the flakes. the other fish certainly know who is boss, when he went for a bit of food they got out of the way very quickly.

i don't think he is yellow. his body is an electric blue colour with a hint of orange, very metallic. his fins are orange going to blue at the tips. the first pic is a good representation of his true colour.

He is a MG and MG's can come in a variety of colors. Here is a picture of a MG Black Lace that I have. Also you said you're going to put floating plants on the top of the water. Just remember Bettas are air breathers and have to have room at the top to get air. leave room for that for him.

This one is a Green MG. He got his dorsal torn during breeding.

good point. its about 40% covered with small floating lettuce.

what's an MG out of interest?

he is lovely!!!
tank is gorgeous too. i wouldnt worry about bioload as mentioned somewhere due to all those plants. im sure they deal just fine with excess ammonia or other nitrogen compounds.
he seems to be a pineapple mustard gas...very unique coloration. very nice find!
cheers
