Final Stages Of Cycling

I understand the nitrite now. When I did my fishless cycles, mine also went immediately to purple as soon as I put the drops in. I just never bothered to shake it up and let it sit as I already had my answer (HIGH!!) Actually, I misposted on th water changes. You are doing a fishless cycle so you don't need to do small water changes unless you overdose the amonia. You really don't need it to g over about 4 ppm at this oint or that could stall/slow the process.

thanks for the rapid reply :) there is like 2inch space in height for more media, don't think i really wanna clog it up lol, as for the nitrite it's still off the chart (light green colour) i'll sit and meditate for a couple months i guess ^_^

Well, if you have a 2"gap in your trickle filter then I would strongly suggest a 2" thick slice of coarse foam media or ceramic tubes (noodles) to fill it :hyper:(bacteria does not grow in a gap, lol) . What would be a real treat would be for you to get some "mature media" (some old stuff straight from a well used filter) either through your lfs or mabe from the pinned posts on this forum.
