ive just brought a super fish external filter for my tank and just wondering which whould work the best in my 180ltr tank

What are the stats for the external? I am not familiar with the name or make.

The U4 would for sure have enough turnover to keep your tank good (or at least it should do under normal conditions) but does take up a fair bit of tank space. An external gives you this space back, which in some cases is imperitive. My 180 litre tank is currently running a TetraTec ex1200 and a Fluval 4+ which is very much overkill imo, but once the 1200 has matured then the 4+ will be coming out.

If space is not an issue then you could run both...
