How loud should a 20watt 1000l/h or 219g/h internal filter be?
my one is about as loud as a tower pc and an old one at that Is this normal?
this is too loud for me. So where should I go from hear what is the quietest filter that I can buy for no more than say 50 euro 60 dollars and far less if I can I have looked at canisters but there out of my price range at about 150 dollars localy

i have for a 50g 200L tank
Note I am in Ireland so mail order of filters that aren’t small are usually more to post than there worth.

I use a Fluval 305 in my 240 litre tank and I can hardly hear it. It came with the tank so I don't know what it costs.

Well you've hit on one of the main reasons that experienced aquarists sometimes spend lots of money on filters - they are after silence!

Still, there must be some completely submerged but pump driven underwater box filters out there. I think I've seen some but we'll have to get the collective power going here - there are lots of members that know every filter out there, lol. If the entire mechanism is underwater, the operation should be pretty quiet! You do lose a little tank volume but that can be an ok trade off for silence.

For a 50 gallon tank, why not just use a nice big sponge filter like this one? I have been running one just like it as my only filter in a 40 gallon breeder for several years now. I use a nice quiet power head to provide the circulation.

As far as mailing mass, the whole arrangement would be less than 1/2 a kilogram.
