I have a jewel rekord with built in filter.

the instructions were in German and i put it together using the pictures on the box.

now, having read and learned from all of you wonderful people, am i right in thinking that i change the white part of the filter weekly and rinse the rest of it in tank water taken out during water changes each month, or is it more or less often?

Hi,

You can download the English instructions here http://www.juwel-aquarium.de/en/aktuelle_modelle303.htm But you're right that the white poly pad is changed weekly. As for the others, I know that the blue fine and blue coarse pads can be rinsed in tank water during water changes, but I believe that you shouldn't rinse the black carbon or green nitrate sponges, they have to be replaced. Have a look at the instructions on the website, and they'll tell you roughly when you change or rinse.

When you replace the black & green sponges change them for blue ones - these can be rinsed & last for years.
