Filter In A Bucket Of Water From The Tank That Leaks

Hi! I noticed a leak from my 110 l tank yesterday when i got home. I panicked! I live on the first floor so i had to act fast. i took my fish to the lfs but i left my filter in a bucket of water. What am i supposed to do? the filter is not turned on. Did all my bacteria die? Will i have to cycle my tank again! Please help me, im so unlucky!

The bacteria will be ok for a few days. Could you have set up a bucket with a heater and a few fish with the filter? You don't have a hospital tank?

Get a new tank now Or just a cheap small one Or even a rubber storage container can work for a temp home for your fish. You might even find someone in your area that can lone you a tank. Did you return the fish to the store or are they holding them for you?

Are you going to reseal this tank?
I would get a second cheap tank because it is always good to have a hospital tank.

Unfortunately i dont have another tank.

They will keep the fish for me for a few days. The tank has been resealed, but i have to wait 48 hours.
Its so horrible, i feel completely helpless. I dont know where i could get another fishtank from. Its 17:50 here in UK. I could only buy a cheap one.
And i dont know anybody nearby who could help me.

Turn the filter on in the water bucket to ensure that the bacteria get oxygen.

If things get delayed beyond a couple of days for some reason, you can feed the filter by adding a small quantity of pure ammonia to the bucket. This way you can keep the bacteria alive indefinitely.

Where can i get ammonia from?

You could get ammonia from fish food or pure ammonia some grocery store have it in the cleaning section. You could put a little bit of raw shrimp in the bucket to feed it. Some bacteria will die off but some will be ok and will grow back quickly.

I cant get my filter work properly. Theres not enough place in the bucket.
Ive got a bin that i could use, its a lot bigger.
Can i put some water and dechlorinate it with AquaSafe? Then put the filter in with the water from the tank?
Would that be any good? Or dont i need that water which the filter sits in at the moment?
Then i could put some fish food in the water and turn it on.

A brand new bin from a supermarket would do - so long as you give it a good rinse first. If your bin is clean it might do, but you gotta be careful in case there's been anything nasty in it... you don't need the same water, just water that's been dechlorinated, and preferably put the heater in there too.

You can get ammonia from sainsbury's homebase, Boots, or probably B&Q.

Im quite nervous though, the heater being in the bin but i tried to make it safe. Now i only have to feed the bacteria!
