What would be the best sort of fertilisers to use for a 12"x8"x8" and a 45"x18"x24"? And also which specific makes would you recommend once you have identified the best sort?

For Primary Nutrients NPK, make your own (al la PMDD)? Far cheaper.

For trace, Tropica Master Grow (aka AquaCare Plant Nutrition Liquid) or my fav, SeaChem Flourish.

I bought 3lb of csm+b and 1.5lb of 10% iron and it was £66 inc p+p last time (or close to it). need more as some I sent on to a friend was lost in the post... so if anyone else is interested, pm me. Not into making any profit, just splitting the shipping price
