Fairly Large, Easy Breeding Fish?

i think you need to get out more if you truly think 4 or 5 inch is fairly large.
and if you want something fairly large that will breed in the same environment as african cichlids then get african cichlids, doesnt take a lot of working out.
i read the question perfectly well thank you but if you give absolutely stupid answers then expect comments on them!

and to the op if the reason you want something to breed in the same conditions as african cichlids, is because you already have african cichlids then no fry would last too long with them anyway so surely it would be a waste of time.
you could try Synodontis multipunctatus (cuckoo catfish) that natuarally breed side and side with african cichlids and hide their eggs amongst the cichlids but i dont know how easy they are to breed.

i would like to know why they have to breed like african cichlids but live in south american style water?

if you want to breed something you would normally set up a tank to suite the fish not set up a tank and then go looking for random fish to try and breed in it.
i think you need to make your intentions clearer if you want sensible answers.

i think cuckoos catfish are fairly easy to breed i was looking into geting a few. there just hard to get male and female but they prefere to live in groups so if you get a few you should get male and female

I agree with this guy I'm not going to reccomend anything as I'm not sure what you want, and I haven't personally bred many... Those rainbow cichlids are stunning though
4 inches is SMALL

Mine are about 5 inches but don't grow much bigger ever. They look about the same as an adult convict in size, unless it is juvenile convicts that I have seen breeding. They are small for a cichlid but big enough that they are much bigger than my other fish. I usually breed small fish like Heterandria formosa and goodeids and by comparison these things are giants. My daughter breeds severums but in my opinion a fish that size is too big for an average aquarium. As it is, my rainbows are in a 120 gallon community tank along with nothing but much smaller fish. They dwarf even my pleco in that tank.

4 inches is SMALL

Not the smallest, but I would say it is a bit shy of sairly large. 5" And I would consider it fairly large.

No, I think a 6inch fish is fairly large also. I would say large starts at 8", and anything past 12" is huge. I have never kept large fish, only up to 4", so my idea and yours are probally totally different.

ha, thats exaggerating a little bit isn't it!
i have 8 inch catfish, 8 inch snakehead, 10 inch bichir, 10 inch fire eels, they aren't big fish, the fire eel will get to about 36" which is big, the snakehead and bichir will get to about 12 inch which is about medium, not at all large by any meens.
