I am looking for an external filter for my 350 litre tank, im not impressed with the internal filter inside my juwel trigon 350.

What does this board recommend?

eheim pro 2 superb filters its what i run absolutely silent and easy to maintain

what sort of fish do you want to keep in the tank? small peaceful fishes will be fine with an Eheim or Fluval. If you want stuff like oscars or other big predators, then a couple of big Eheims or Fluvals.

If you want to keep African rift lake cichlids then get a big filter or a couple of filters. Mbuna live in alkaline water and any ammonia they produce will be extremely toxic in the alkaline water. Having a big filter with lots of flow will help get rid of the ammonia quicker than a smaller filter. You want a filter that can turn the tank volume over 10 times an hour or more for this purpose.

I use Tetratecs and love them. Far better than the Fluval I had on it before  My old Fluval gave out electric shocks and was very noisy, and a mate of mine had his wash the floor of his diningroom with tank water, after the 9 month old seal ring failed... The Eheim Pro and Classic ranges are also good apparently. Avoid Eheim Ecco's like the plague though :good:

All the best
