Epoxy Resin?

Hi,

Is regular epoxy resin reef safe after allowed to fully cure?

It's used on boats so I would have thought so.

However it may leach toxins ( in a boat this wouldn't matter due to thee dilution in the sea ) so unless some one has first hand experience I'd try to find a alternative

What's it for if you don't mind me asking ?

I'm trying to make a protein skimmer on the cheep using polypropylene clip-lock containers, lol
Its looking good so far, but I'm struggling to make really fine bubbles!
The epoxy is needed to bond the base container to the cylinder as this bit needs to be really strong.
For all the other joints i am happy to use aquarium silicone and PVC cement.

Is it a air driven skimmer or Venturi if air driven a normal airdrome won't work youll have to use a wooden one but I'd be abit worried with the epoxy tbh :crazy:

Epoxy resin is non-toxic when fully cured, there's no reason why it should present a problem.

Yep, I have been playing around with a wooden air stone, but my air pump needs a lot more gut's to be be able to run it properly.
But honestly, I would like to avoid using it when the skimmer is finished, from what i hear the wooden air stones need to be replaced every few weeks!
Think I will use a venturi valve or a needle wheel pump, I tried making a few venturi's but just cant get the bubbles fine enough.
If all else fails i will use A Beckett foam jet, but it looks like they require very high flow.
I would like to try making one but i don't have a clue how they work

I was thinking the same, that epoxy was safe when fully cured. I'm sure i have heard of people using it to attach corals to live rock!
(But that may be a special aquarium resin)
