Anyone use Seachem Purigen resin to keep nitrate levels low?

Purigen works in a way similar to carbon. If you remove the organics that would break down into ammonia, you prevent them from then creating nitrite and thus no nitrate either. Purigen does not remove any of the nitrogenous compounds.

Purigen® controls ammonia, nitrites and nitrates by removing nitrogenous organic waste that would otherwise release these harmful compounds.

I see no reason to spend money on this product. Weekly water changes and/or a reasonable level of live plants can do the same thing.
