Hey

I am using above my new 112L (30US gallons) tank energy saving bulbs commonly found in homes, the ones that are a type of compact Fluorescent but has an edison screw.

The tank will be heavily planted with glosso, Riccia, hairgrass and other plants that require high lighting.

The question is that, On the pakaging of these energy saving bulbs (which are 6500K btw....brought them all the way from australia to poland cos i couldnt find any in poland) it says that while the input wattage is 20 the output wattage is 100.

What shud i take into account when i am calculating my WPG??
Should i use 20Watts for my calculations or 100Watts??

if i do use the Output wattage (100Watts), my tank would have a WPG of 7.5!! yet the tank seems to not be very bright to me. :dunno:

The 20 to 100W claim is based on comparison with standard tungsten filament bulbs (where most of the energy is lost in heat).

Use 20W in your WPG working. Ensure you fit good refectors too.

The 2W/gallon rule is using fluorescent watts. In case of compact fluorescent you will probably need to double the wattage on the bulb to arrive at a normal fluorescent watt.
