Hi everyone,
I currently have a community tank that has been running for about 9 months. I was looking at adding a splash of colour and really like the guppy endlers. I just wondered if the males are going to be too small and risk being eaten by my other fish?
My current stocking is 4 corydoras, 6 adult black phantom tetras, 4 threadfin rainbow fish and 2 young pearl gouramis, oh and 2 otos.

pH is 7.5, ammonia 0, nitrite 0 and nitrate 30.

I also like the fancy guppies so that would be another option instead of the endlers but I don't want to overstock my tank (125 litres).

What are peoples thoughts on this please?

Go for endlers! I wish more people would instead of getting guppys. I don't think they stand any chance of being eaten really. Interesting to watch, occupy all levels. Fancy guppy tails invite being nibbled by other fish more than the endler tails. I had 8 males and they lasted years compared to guppys which I can hardly get a year out of whenever I give them another go.

There would be no problem right now but when the gouramis are around 6 inches long that situation will be changed.

From what I had read, the pearl gourami grows to a max of 10-12 cm which would be around just over 4 inches? Have I read the wrong info?

Thanks for the reply soybean. I notice you are in Lincs, I live near Lincoln! Can I please ask where you get your fish from? We usually go to Maidenhead Aquatics and have also had some fish from Perrys but I wondered if there was anywhere else you would recommend?

I think I may go for the endlers - we have a spare small tank so if the pearl gourami did decide they had a large appetite then I could move the endlers into there if it came to it.

Would you recommend just males or males and females? (I realise any fry would most likely be eaten by the tetra and gourami).

Elsa.

I'm nearer Grimsby but I have been to the Lincoln MA quite a few times, which is probably the nearest to you anyway, or I go to the one at Brigg or Louth.

I had all males but I notice a trend now that a lot of places seem to insist on selling them in pairs, as people just buy the males and leave the females. I seriously doubt many if any fry would make it, so a mix of m and f would be fine, you would see more natural behaviour. But a group of all males would be fine as well.

Endlers don't eat their fry the same way guppies do, but your Gouramis would see them as tasty snacks, even the adults possibly.
Endler females are very drab in colour
