Have had to drop the water levels in my tanks while waiting to find out if our floor is holding or not, so the lift tube sticks out to far for the water to spill out. I don't want to cut the tubes shorter because I want to be able to use them when the tanks are full again (will either get rid of half the tanks if the floors gone wrong until its fixed and refill it, or if the floor is fine refill it) So I will be uping water changes. Question is, should I remove the filters completely or leave them in? At the moment I just moved the air stones out of the lift tubes and right into the tanks.

Thanks :)

Tip the filters at an angle, I've run them horizontal before. If the bubbles are coming out of the tube & not the sponge itself they are working. I have a spare cycling right now in a 55 that is horizontal, plec keeps knocking it over so I just leave it.

will have to see if I can get it that far over without the fish getting in or put something over the top to keep them out.

The only fish I've ever seen try to go into the uplift tube are smaller plecs. The current and air coming out prevents fry from going in. I use them in all my fry tanks, and the ends of my homemade sponge filters are well below the surface in most cases. I use 1/2" pvc pipe, the opening is pretty large.

thats what I use. I guess I don't have the air up enough as I put them all sideways, came back later and couldn't find ANY fish, as they were all hiding out in the tubes! lol. bleh.
