hi all

i am interested in breeding egg laying species, bearing in mind ive done livebearers and cories, is there anything that is small enough to be happy in a 60 litre that will breed happily? i am doing this for a peice of GCSE coursework for biology, please help.

i spose i could but ive heard there very territorial when breeding i was thinking something like along the lines of a characin or cyprinid

Not overly territorial, as long as you have a cave for them to spawn in you should be ok.

Or a trio of honey gouramis, bubble nesting but easy to care for?

You should be fine with a small species in that tank, assuming your talking about the rekord? 1m and 2f. Easy to tell if they are spawning and to document if its for a project :good:

yes the rekord. how do i sex them? thanks for the replys by the way

and which are easier honeys or dwarfs?

well as you know the rekord is not a true 60 litre

Females: Usually larger and plumper, honey's have a brown horizontal stripe, short rounded dorsal fin
Males: Long pointed dorsal fin, smaller and more slim, usually much more vibrant in color.

I would stick with the honey variety, as they are smaller than the dwarf, but its your choice, in dwarf gouarmi the males are the colourful ones, the females are usually a greyer colour.

I have no idea which is the easier to breed, as I dont have any experience of this, Ive kept a couple of varieties of gourami but only males.

thanks alot my ph is 7 ammonia 0 nitrate 0 nitrite 0 but my water is quite hard. i feed king british and live daphnia and bbs evry other day on like a rotation basis so live food every 4 days

and i have duckweed :/

:)

Well sounds good to me, you can only try and see how it goes, which isnt much help for your project, but its always hard to say for definate if fish will breed or not. But your stats are good, feeding is good, let us know if you go ahead and how you get on.
