Hi All,

I am liking the idea of having a couple of Dwarf Cichlids but as I am only just learning about them I am finding it hard to find ones that would be right for my tank.
Has anyone with experiences got any suggestions please.

All the important info:
120 Litre 3ft Tank
Ph 7.4 from the tap
Ammonia and Nitrites 0 for 3 months
Nitrates 20-30
25% water changes every week
Temp 26 degrees constant
Gh & Kh waiting to here back from the water board.
My Current stocking:
7 Guppies
1 Male Betta
Cherry Shrimp
About to add 10 Cardinal Tetra's

Cheers

Hi RetSys, welcome to the forum. :)

Your water is of a similar ph to mine and i keep Apistogramma Cacatuoides, Apistogramma Baenschi Inka and Pelvicachromis Subocellatus Matadi.

The only issue i really see from your stock list is the Cherry Shrimps. Even the smaller Apisto species will relieve you of your Shrimp so you may want to set up a small tank just for them. That way they can breed and multiply without the fear of being eaten.

Just another thing to look out for, keep an eye on your Betta with the Guppies as they can sometimes mistake them for other male fighters so attack or nip them.

Hi Minnnt,

Thanks for the reply, I do have a small tank i could put the Cherry's in or I might just let nature take its course, as far as the betta and the guppies go, I have been keeping an eye on them but so far so good, My betta is pretty laid back anyway and a times even swims around with the guppies lol.

I am really liking the Apistogramma Cacatuoides and have found a local shop with stock so will be taking a look in person at the weekend.

Cheers for the info

You're welcome. Check out Ianho's video further down this section of his female.

I would set the other tank up for the Shrimp, they will all eventually get picked off as they will be sharing the same area of the tank.

Cacatuoides are great, but also consider Agassizzi. They're very metallic like when in full colour.

Here is my Cac... Would love to show you my Baenschi but he hardly ever comes out. lol.

I have a Baenschi Inka I can show a photo of later. They just love sifting through the substrate - do you have sand or gravel or something in between? Planted?
