If you don't know what a duplex sump is go to www.reefvideos.com . Go to the upper right hand corner and you'll notice names to the videos will pop up when you drag your mouse over them. click on the one that says sump concept. I am just wanting to get more information on this concept and has me wanting to redo my sump for my 75 gallon tank. the benthic zone is low flow so my thought here is how do you get it to be low flow? in the video it really it shows a diagram and it doesn't show any baffles after the lifted fuge it just goes to the return pump. I can see one baffle past the skimmer but no more after that. I will not be using the Aiptaisa zone and will just try to get the tunicates, sea squirts, featherduster, tube worms and what not to just go nuts and just polish the water for me. I really don't want to use a UV because I want to keep a dragonet eventually, I don't want the pods to get zapped.

I was wanting to set up my refugium like this. Skimmer 3 baffles (or could I do two) Benthic zone with live rock rubble on top, next section small area with sand more live rock and plants, next section could be my pump (EHEIM 1260). I was thinking about plumbing the pump so it is external. I don't want to try to cut a circle in the glass to plumb it. any suggestions?

I believe the idea with the benthic zone is to just create an area of the sump with egg crate that has no light... The diagram is pretty telling. You just have egg-crate sides to the compartment and cover the top to seal out th elight :)

I understand the no light and the eggcrate. I all ready have build the eggcrate stand as I like to call it. I was reading on the forum that reefvideos has and there is a discussion that the guy in the video ended up not using the mesh screen that he had on top because sand was going throught, and to just use live rock rubble. If there is not a baffle after to the right after the eggcrate then wouldn't it be high flow since the return pump would be like 4 inches from it? Maybe I'm making this harder than it really is. i just don't want to finish it and it not work efficiently.

Thanks,

Ryan

The return pump draw will be pretty diffuse over the entire baffle, so I wouldnt worry about that.
