Duckweed Recommended?

Hello.


Is duckweed recommended ? Will it help at all or cause any problems?

Or is it fine to have with guppies and neon teras?

yes i have duckweed in all my tank's....however you will need to trim maintain alot as it multiplys sooo rapid, but fish feel more comfortable in my oppinion

Most people either love duckweed or hate it. People like me love it for keeping the tank nitrogen under control and providing a good hiding place for fry that swim to the top, as some do. Other people don't like the floating mass that interferes with feeding, water changes, decorating and other things because it sticks to everything. There are not many who have a neutral feeling about it.

It helps reduce light, some SA dwarf cichlids will like this, but then, it can get really out of control. I would suggest something else like a water Lilly, if you are looking for a floating plant, maybe just some floating moss, like java moss, or my favorite, flame moss.

I have standard lighting in my tank which means any decrease in light output can reduce the growth of my plants and so give me algae problems (when plants are growing well they use up nutrients so that algae suffers - as soon as the plants growth slows down, the algae grows!)

So fo this reason, Im not keen on duckweed in my main tank. A few petals of it and in a week there will be a handful, then the next week 3 handfuls etc. However it is welcome in my fry tank/shrimp tank.

Ok thankyou for all your views, iam choosing to use this as the fish love it, i will keep netting out and keep it maintained, and will also but the rest up on here cheap
