Hi and hello;
I have this egg that had been laid by my duck some time ago, and now when I hold the egg I can feel something moving or something that make a clicking movements in the egg, which i think that a duckling is in it, I think that the egg was laid somewhere from ( aug 20-22), and the egg seems to float as well, the egg should hatch in date (17) this month... What should I do now? I also candled the egg as well, there seems to be a big black spot in the egg and some movements, the question is... Are the hard parts over or are they just getting hard, I know that the hatching is the stage of tensity. But should I worry or is every thing fine, oh and the egg is not being incubated by the mom duck or by an incubator... It actualy being incubated by a pigeon :blush: and she seems to be patient as well!!

Strange that the pigeon is doing the chores of a duck egg, but.... do not intervene and let it take it's course..... Once hatched, ducklings are independant and will look after itself..... just provide chick-chick no.1. and observe.

So do you mean that the hard part is over? And I only have to wait for it's hatching? Cool!!
Don't be puzzled why is that pigeon incubating the egg, it had successfully hatched many bird eggs like guinea fowl's for an example! What do you mean with chick chick no.1?

just remember mr otter when/if it hatches out dont introduce it to water to swim in till its feathered up as young ducklings rely on mother ducks oils for water proofing and it will get cold and may die if its allowed to swim early on even drown

regards scot :)

btw what kinda duck is it i used to get lovebirds to sit my quail eggs so a pidgeon doin the work for you doesnt surprise me at all good luck

She is a mallard but she can't fly, I think that she is domestic but still have the appearance of it's wild ancestors... Thanks, sometimes my pigeon's patience surprises me, good luck with your lovebirds and quails, are they the Chinese painted quail?

Fellas!!
The egg had hatched!! And the duckling looks awesome and adorable!and female duck had started laying more eggs and she seem to be more interested in them than she was before, maybe if I didn't disturbed her or her eggs she will incubate them by her self, though I'm not sure but she seems be building a nest around the eggs!
