I recently got a few pieces of driftwood for my tanks. They are some kind of asian or african hardwood that sinks right away. Anyway, do they ever rot or otherwise need to be replaced eventually? Each tank with the driftwood has a pleco in it, they are one of the reasons I got the wood, as I hear plecos like to rasp on it.

I was told yes they do rot/decompose like anything else, but the process can take decades.Bottom line;you shouldn't have to worry about it for thirty or forty years!!! :shifty:

They are really decomposing the second you put them in the tank. I don't think they are ever "bad" though, it just might start making your water very dirty from large pieces breaking off.
