Does Any1 Know...

Any chance of posting a pic?

It would help us come up with a solution if we could see the actual problem :D

Cant at the mo but can describe i little better..

It is a tank with a flat glass lid, In each corner there is a plastic bit for the glass to sit on. All the way around the edge of the glass there is a gap that is about half a inch wide.

Does that help at all?

Oh and it need to let the light throught as the lights are on top.

Thanks

Perhaps a wooden frame to sit onto of the glass, or if you wanted to be fancy a wooden frame with the galss slotted into it (a bit liek a picture frame), and then the whole think laid on top of the tank. Not sure what you are going to do about gas exchange though, or cables / pipes, you'll still need A gap perhaps in a corner / edge, just not all the way around.

temporary fix - cling film works a treat. bit messy but prevents jumpers while you look for something permanent.

leave a couple of holes for ventilation.

I was thinking like a mesh that i can cut to fit but not shure where to get it from.

Im not very good with fixing bits of wood to things n i think i would make it look a mess!

Thanks for the cling film idea i will do that.. Just wish i had done it sooner..

Just remember to leave gaps for air Haylea! :D

What's the problem with the gaps? Have you had any fish jump out or is it a case of stopping things getting in, like cat paws?

Hi Jenny
My biggest fav f8 jumped the other night while i was asleep and i found him dead in the morning and the gap was smaller than him so now im worried my little puffer is gonna do the same.

Aw Haylea I'm sorry to hear that! :(

I get freaked when my two jump about when I'm cleaning the tank I have to say!

I would suggest sticking down netting...even if it's net curtain style material. You can get open weave netting from fabric shops easily enough. I'm wondering if you could make a net 'hat' for the tank, elasticated so it won't slip off? It might not look too pretty but it would solve your problem.
Failing that, how about getting some plastic cut to size that's bigger than the glas lid you have at the moment? thick perspex/acrylic? You could get holes cut into it to allow for air movement.

Hi Jenny

Yes im thinking like a mesh that i can cut to fit under the glass lid so you wouldn't even see it. I have found some on ebay but it is not big enough so i will have a look in some garden centers.

Im just so upset as he was my fav an had been through so much since i got him. he was also big n i never see them in shops that big.

Buy some E Channel from your local DIY store, cut two lengths and set them to the inside front and back of your tank (not permanently) then have 2 pcs of 4mm float glass cut to 5mm less than the width of your tank and 60mm more than half the length of your aquarium. Slip the glass into the slots in the channelling and voila you have a nice tidy sliding coverglass.
