DOA

That info comes to you from Grim Reaper. Haha

I get squashed broken boxes and supplies all the time: from USPS, UPS and FedEx. I buy most supplies online, unless I need them right away. I've had flourescent bulbs smashed, substrate leaking all over. That's one reason beside temperature that major experienced fish shippers put the double bags with packing paper inside a Styrofoam container that tightly fits inside a solidly constructed, well taped box. The fish are protected from the tossing , sorting , machining, colding, heating, noisy, stressing world of shipping. And THEY have a percentage of DOA's. Thing is, you pay for all that.

I have asked the shipping companies about the smashed boxes, they tell, me no matter what, the box must be strong enough to withstand a large crushing machine that sorts and moves the boxes.

Synirr did what she could for $4.00.

Again, DaSauce, I'm so sorry. It's a shocking thing for any fish lover to find when opening an expected joyfilled box. If people are ready to give money to you for fish, put it together, order a batch of Synirr's babies and ask her how much to pack them like I just described and ship them at least Express?

*HUGS* I'm sorry!!! T_T I know it sucks, my baby from Synirr arrived dead too... Maybe we were just unlucky. At least your folks want to get a couple more anyway :)

What kind of boxes were they? I use itty bitty small styrofoam boxes and so far have a perfect arrive alive track record, and we're talking 100's and 100's of fish. I'm wondering if it has something to do with the unbelievable heat we've been having here in Texas...it's been close to,and over,100 degrees every day this week and last.

I guess I still don't know what you mean. Was there any insulation at all?

EDIT~ got a pic of it?

Wuv, there were no Styrofoam boxes. Mine did come in a corregated cardboard box. But there was only a little bubble pack sheet and some popcorn Styrofoam.

oh....okay -_- Maybe it was the boxes then. That and a combination of the heat, I would imagine.

It's okay,DaSauce, don't worry about it. I was just curious because I know if it was me I would be determined to find out what went wrong before I shipped again. Bless their wittle hearts.

When I lifted the box I could hear the water slosh. It felt like I was carrying a water ballon.

Synirr only charged the priority shipping rate of $4 for all that would fit in a priority box. Then the PO ran out of boxes.

its ok..... Hrmm I didnt really REALLY take a good look at the popcorn box..but it was like the ones that u put in the microwave.....

She was making a super effort to get everyone's fish out. Again if you want Synirr's babies, ship minimum USPS Express ($18) and pay a little more to get a Styrofoam box to ship in. Maybe Synirr has one she will use just for you for this time. I think the priority boxes are much stronger and come through without damage. Still all the noise and shaking is stressful to the fish.

Corregated cardboard has two cardboard sheets with waffling in the middle. If I understand you this box was a single sheet of cardboard.
