Do Your Worst With A 6gal

the tanks actual size is 6.6gal,i am jus classing the .6 as the displacement

jus seen had a look at the blue light/bubble punk...i think its a bit big for my tank

the shrimps seem pretty sexy!

if i have them with a betta will he eat them?
jus looked at a few on google images...the crown finned betta looks awesome :hyper:

and the endlers seem like a pretty cool alternative to neons, about how many do you think i could accomodate?

in one of my fishie books it has an equation for workin out how many inchs of fish i can keep and it works out that i can have 11 inchs of fish meat
is this accurate or rubbish?

lol jus read my message before i post it and i sound like such a noob

oh yeah,i am thinking about purple/indigo gravel with a black background now

gonna set it up for a fishless cycle in a week or 2
will have 2 post pics

You are doing great considering a bit of worst case scenerio (very small tank with tall shape.) You will be much, much better off in the long run for having listened to the experience you can hear on this site. I think its great that you are being so creative with the decorations and the fish being discussed can be enhanced by the type of decor you are describing.

Small tanks are more volatile - their water parameters can change much faster and therefor present more of a challenge to beginners (contrary to what one might think.) The volume of a tall tank is relatively large compared to the top surface area. Top surface area is the main factor in the transfer of O2 in and CO2 out of the water. Both these factors will actually increase your need for information and knowledge during the fishless cycling and the subsequent care of fish. Working now on learning about how filters work and what is going on during the fishless cycle will pay off in a big way.

I am in agreement with the others about the positives of the endlers, betta and cherry shrimp. Some dense areas of plants with endlers darting in and out could be a really nice look. The bad news is that 6 inches (full grown maturity not including tail or other fins) is really pretty much your limit I think. If you like it you will be dying for a bigger tank in no time.

righty ho peoples!
i have started my fishless cycle
i went for black gravel in the end as the store didnt have purple and the blue was to pale for my tastes but i am not satisfied with the depth of the gravel so i am going to do a water change around a week before i add my fish then mix in some silver gravel to kinda give a disco effect
my attempts to add some live plants were laughable but i am going to do it properly during the water change
its far from the nu rave extravaganza yet but i have a long road to go yet.

i am liking the ideas about endlers cherry shrimps and mountain cloud minnows
i was all up for gettin a betta but i had a sudden change of heart

i am goin to a garden center out of town next week and am gonna use it as a chance to have a look at loads of fishies that are not stocked at my LFS
(obviously this will make me completely change my mind on what i want lol)

anyways thats just a little update from me

will post picks once its lookin like a sex machine

thanx all

ps if anybody has any more awesome ideas for a nu rave style tank pot em here
