Do You Store Water For Water Change Or Not?

I have 3 big tanks, every week I need about 100L new water for water change.

Although I always use water conditioner to treat water first every time before the water change, I still store 100L tap water in an extra tank in my bath room, thus the water will be one week old when they used for water change.

I know you can directly use tap water as long as you treat them first. I just think store the water is kinda double guarantee. However, I was told storing water is asking for trouble, as all kinda bacteria can breed in the store tank etc.

So , do you store water or not?

this can save you moeny. if you keep the water in the tank with a strong airstone in it for a week you wont even need to use dechlorinator. This will save you loads of moeney.

Storing water has the advantage of allowing chlorine to gas off (esp if run with an air stone) and allowing the pH to settle. However, it will not remove heavy metals, residual ammonia or chloramine. A water conditioner is essential for this.

I don't store water because I don't have the space. I'd need well over 150 litres and just don't have a spare tank big enough.

My point is not saving money, as I mentioned, even I store the water, I still use water conditioner to treat the water. meanwhile, I do not use air pump for the stored water, I just store them in an extra tank.

I thought, it may seems kinda waste, as I still treat water, but at least there is no harm.

But i was told today, it will cause more trouble... that is why I ask more opinion...

in my opinion, it is quite cheap to just buy a bottle now and then of water conditioner than to keep a whole other tank empty just to hold water...I would not be able to resist using the "extra" tank for fish/frogs

With a bit over 1100 gallons between all my tanks I'll let the water company do the storing. I do have a couple 55 gallon poly drums for storage if need be.

this will only gas of chlorine . it wont do anything to chloramines , dissolved metals etc . if you simply want to save money give seachem prime a try it gos loads further than other dechlorinators . you can safely store water for waterchanges , in fact a lot of serious discus nuts will store the treated water for 24 hours with an airstone and a heater !!
