Do Fish Bite?

mine nibble my arm when I clean the tank. it doen't hurt just tickles!

Just ask any Piranah..... But seriously, my Severum bit me when they had eggs..... & whenever I go fishing,..... The fish just bite & bite.....

I only have to worry about my rubber eels, since I hand feed them. Sometimes they grab on to my hand instead on the food. They could probably do some damage if I let them chew on my hand. But it doesn't take too much to get them to let go.

My rainbows will bite too. I've learned to keep my finger tips away from the water surface. It doesn't really hurt, it's just surprising. You don't expect it to happen. They've bitten quite a few guests :shifty:.

Dont try wiggling fingers with a Snakehead.

A couple of years ago I bought some debauwi catfish, only little things they were, but putting them in the tank I got a very nasty bite or sting or possibly even a dorsal stuck in the side of my middle finger near the bone. It was only a small wound but it hurt like hell for weeks and weeks and I still have a scar now. Was a very weird thing, had all sorts of experts trying to work it out, from people at the LFS to the doctors and even a vet! Nobody knew what it was or how to treat it.

Most of my tropical fish are quite shy. Not so the koi and goldfish outside. Now I have a new labrador puppy and every time he sticks hs face in the water the biggest koi (about 15") comes up to kiss him. It's really cute

My platys attack my fingers every time I feed them. The first time it happened I didn't know what was going on. Since then its just one of those things you get used to. Sadly the Stooges teach their bad habits to all my fish and since my neons have taken to begging for food now I expect the finger nipping will follow.

yeah had a bit of a bite off my Oscar a few years back. hurt a bit but no lasting damage

Will you actually get an electric shock if you kept them electric eels???? (how many volts or amps)???

CFC was put on his backside by a juvenile electric catfish, and I would expect an electric eel to have more power.

Estimates from the wild are that the hit of an adult would be at least 600V and around 1 or more amps. There are unconfirmed reports that they can stun horses in the water.

Kiss him? Sounds like he is trying to eat him.

That sounds to hurt...

My little female ram keeps biting me, and I once, to see how exuberant she was, held my fingers against the glass, a short while up from the water, like millimeters.

She jumped and bit me.
