Well size could mean anything.

It's 4ft by 1ft by 1ft. Dunno how many gallons that is - 24 UK (imperial) gals I would guess at.

sounds like a 40 gallon to me. US that is. I have a 55 long and its very close to that size that you have listed.

Would there be enough room in a 5 gallon to keep 3,4 or 5 of them? I would like to but I don't know if they'd be cramped or not.

I have 4 in my fry tank thats about 8 gallons, but will have to move them soon because they have grown up quick
