I assume if the divider is plastic that bowing won't indicate all that much pressure on the sides. I have no idea whether the steady pressure on the larger front and back glass would possibly lead to tank failure, but I'd not think so. I don't know the purpose of the metal clips other than to some how keep the divider from moving, so you could probably experiment without them. It might be that they are just there to help when the tank is a little wider than yours and the divider doesn't fit as tightly and bow like yours does.
Anyway, overall, looks like its accomplishing or is going to accomplish what you want!

ps. I'd dry up any water that hits your stand from tank work (as in that pic) as, at least for people with any particle board in the stand, there's a chance the materials could swell or deteriorate from it.. anyway its just a good habit (lol, you probably had just finished with the divider and dried it up right after the pic!)
