Dither Or Dinner? Stocking Advce Needed

Not sure what to do with new 3ft tank. Planning on a breeding cichlid pair. I've been given golden barb and harlequins


Would barb and harlequin make suitable dithers for convicts and other 3 inch cichlids like jewels? Or will they be eaten?

What sort of small catfish would be OK with my convicts which seem to live at tank bottom? No room for large pleco etc.

I would have thought being barbs they'd be ok. The jewels would definately be fine i would have thought. My grandfather kept tetras with his jewels for years. Convicts i have no experience with however, concidering you want to add barbs they should be ok. Keeps the barbs in a shoal of atleast 6 and you should hav eno problems. The barbs will be too great in number to bother the others (if they dare), and your convict will have too many fish to know what to do with, plus i doubt he'd get any where near a barb. There too quick of the mark generally.

I have Clown barbs in with my Central American Cichlid tank, and they are fast. Clown's are among the larger barbs, but Convicts don't get that big really. What is the foot print of you tank ? 3ft isn't that big and if your convicts decide to breed, there won't be much space for your other fish to retreat.

i have seen corys in a malawi community and they were absolutely fine, i then donated 5 harlequins to this tank and they are doing perfectly well
