I happened to go into my local pets at home store today, while the other half was in boots, and was absolutley disgusted at the state of the fish in there, the mollys and platys all had fin rot tha majority of them had no tail fin, the fools had even put a male betta in with tiger barbs and the poor thing had no fins at all, there will be a phone call going into there head office tommorrow!
But what gets me is if you try to buty a fish of them you get the third degree and they have no idea how to keep fish themselves.

I couldnt agree more, they want to appear efficient and knowledgeable while they have you over selling you something that you probably wouldnt buy if they were honest and up front in the begining

OMG! I really wish people wouldn't post about P@H. Same thing different day! Phoning head office wont do anything. Just don't go in. As i always say. You wouldn't eat at a cafe which is riddled with rats and scruffy and has been shut down many times for food poisoning. Move on and get over it.

There's no need to be unpleasant. People don't neccesarily know that these pets at home threads come up as often as they do!

Wasn't trying to be "unpleasant". Just trying to tell them that we have enough of these posts! In fact one should be stickied so no one has to post them!

I always feel better after ranting about P@H purely because the conditions anger and upset me so much. Maybe that's why these threads come up so often because they help people feel better about what they've seen.

I was in my local P@H the other day and was disgusted by the state of the fish. 5 dead swordtails in one tank, a huge gourami of some type clearly very unwell, several tanks with fin rot, etc. I reported it to one of the staff members and she said she'd get right on it. *shrug* I've tried getting a job there to try and improve conditions for the animals but no luck. Although I did hear one staff member tell a little girl rightly that she couldn't keep one white mountain minnow on it's own and that they like to be in shoals. Said little girl then proceeded to throw a hissy fit >.<

By comparison the one that is closer to home when I'm not in uni is much better. The staff still don't really know what they're talking about but all the fish are healthy and have vibrant colours.

something up about pets@home
it hits on a bad nerve every
time i go in to one i am surprised
how the get away with having a giant
gourami in with an Oscar and aload
of other fish in a three foot tank
