hey there forsome time now i've been interested in keeping discus fish, just wanted to know a bit about them like:
what size can they grow to
do they have to be in groups or can they be kept alone
just wondering if one would be okay in a 64l heavily planted aquarium ??
no to the 64l aquarium. minimum 4ft. should be kept in groups of at least 6. can be picky about water quality. need quite high temps limiting what can be added as tank mates. prefer slightly acidic water. need peaceful tank mates as easily stressed.
on the bright side, they are beautiful fish!! i used to keep them with cardinal tetras, sterbai corys and a queen arabesque. you will need a larger tank but if you can get one, i would definitely recommend keeping them. ( tried to shorten my reply as i could go on all day!)
hope that gives you a wee starting point!! good luck
ahh thankyou again laura for your useful info i was looking at peoples discus tanks on youtube, and thought they are a very pretty kind of fish and i would have liked some myself, but being as my tank isn't big enough i guess i'll have to wait till some time in the future
