Enthusiastic "Re-Beginner"
Agree with kbod and stang about some of these more peaceful tetras and barbs. Its easy to not appreciate how stunning and beautiful these small shoals can be. A nicely planted and decorated tank with these kinds of tetras moving in and out between things is simply something to behold in your room. Often people are suprised at how much more color these fish can have once they've been in your well-maintained and lighted tank for a while, its often much more striking than in the fish store where the big lights wash out the color.
