Hi all,
Just had a fustrating day hunting for some nice quality angels - we went to Taunton to Maidenhead / bow & Watermarque but there was no healthy looking juvinilles in any of them (I must admit Watermarque had some nice adult platinums in) Does anyone know of anywhere in the south west or along the M4 that has a nice selection of Koi or Veiltails in at the mo?
On a separate note Bow had some 'Blue face Severums' @ £8 each, they were about an inch long with approx 6 vertical black bars on a very light background, I'm not very up on my sevs can anyone advise which strain these might be?
Cheers
Andy

I saw them today (the sevs), they are just normal basic Green Severums, Watermarque in Yeovil had some nice juvi Angels in there the other day.

Aww thats a shame there is a blue faced variant that is surfacing at the moment cant remember the name though, the ones Im on about get a red throat kind of like a rotkeil but all the way round..... racking my brain for the name but its gone :(

Yeh im about 90% sure they were just green Efaciatus, i picked up some nice Appendiculatus and possibley Notatus from Maidenhead next door tho :)

Anybody into Oscars should check out the Tigers they have in Maidenhead...omg!!! never seen tigers like it....i resisted temptation, only because i juts got myself 2 x 7" male Tapajos and running out of space :p

Saw them on saturday as we decided to do a tour or the fish shops up that way seeing as we have never been looking in that area before (have to say i was expecting more given the reviews these places got in a recent PFK mag). Having seen the Appendiculatus in MH i am sure that you and some others were spot on and that is what "Fsh" is (although he may get renamed to "Pig" given the way he behaves at feeding time). My kids wwre most impressed with the very large blue rams MH had although they were a bit pricey, they also loved the skeleton in the piranha tank !

Yeh they had some huge rams in tehre for £6 each, and a even bigger Bolivian but no price set on it.

Maidenhead are a nightmare for changing prices, last time i was in there they offered me a 10" Daemon for £20, i said no, and went in today and offered them £15, now they said £25 or nothing lol, of course i will get it for £15 at some point.

There is some hidden beautys in the displays under the holding tanks, such as gars, red devils, panda uaru, tiger shovel nose... all kinds of stuff :)

No, not the £6 ones (that is about what i would expect given the prices round here).
There were some there labelled as Ram XL and they wanted £30 a pair.

Hi guys - sorry for the delayed response, had a hectic few days!
Pity about the 'blues face' Sevs but I've gotta admit I thought they looked like juvi greens!
The blue rams were impressive but £30 did seem a bit steep
Unfortunatly the angels in wartermarque had all gone by the time I got there but I have since managed to pick up some very nice Smokey veils from the Goldfish Bowl in Oxford. The also had in some huuuge wild Altums @ £89 each  not cheap but absolutly stunning!!

Glad you found some in the end even if you had to tour the country to find them.
Just imagine how much more cash we would be able to spend on fish if there was a fantastic selection of fish in a shop just around the corner and we didn't end up giving all that petrol tax to the sharks in london

now they said £25 or nothing lol,
I'd take them up on that, 25 or nothing? i'll have them for nothing thanks...

the goldfish bowl is my fave LFS, it's more expensive than anywhere else in the area, but the fish do seem to be better quality, theres a better selection, and the staff (so far) have been pretty good. unfortunately the prices mean i tend to look elsewhere for hardware.

Have you seen the nice Blue Angels? They look awfully scraggly as babies, a bit thin as they come in but with some goot food, its is easily curable! I had an adult one recently and his black bars faded as he grew older and his blue got more and more pronounced! If you see juvi 'blue' angels, look blueish silver with black bars, I am thinking they might grow into absolute stunners!!

If you travel as far as The Goldfish Bowl (which i think i am the only one here to say this but i REALLY didnt like the shop, seriously claustrophibic after being in there, tanks unsuitable for fish, ridiculous prices and longfinned oscars with...wait for it...NO fins after being so chewed!! ack..)

Then you are close to some other really good shops, not all look that great but its in those small dark shops you find your bargains!! Besides, with small shops like that, if you ask nicely and question prices, they might be more likely drop it a bit if they think they've got a nice customer that actually cares! Its what i do on shop tours... if you dont ask, you dont get!! I picked up a 25cm Royal Panaque for £20!! Bargain, he is a pain in the backside but he is still my bargain fish.

In the localarea of The Goldfish Bowl, you have MH @ Chipperfield, MH @ Aylesbury, MH @ Oxford (wheatly as well for marines), MH @ St Albans (Very good for the larger oddballs), MH @ Iver and MH @ Hillingdon both in Uxbridge and are good for prices and oddballs like stingrays and stuff! The other shops in the area, completely ignoring P@H as they are in just about every town if you so wish to find one... But Chiltern Aquatics in Harlingtion and Japanese Koi Company in Henlow are both worth a visit, the latter especially though prices suck a bit, its worth it just to see the 6" 6k koi LOL.

There are other shops in the area but they tend to be really small and worth looking at if you are going past but not really worth the petrol money otherwise...
