Daphnia

fill up a plastic tub or pond outside in the sun.
Add a handful of lawn fertiliser and an airstone.
Leave until the water goes dark green then intrduce the live daphnia.
Within a few weeks the container will be full of them.
It is a good idea to start new cultures every now and then or have a seperate pond of green water to feed the main culture with.
You can also feed them on infusoria (paramecium).
This can be cultured in similar containers. Add water and a whole lettuce for every 20litres of water. Make sure the lettuce is free of chemicals.
Allow the culture to aerate for about a month and then the water should be clear and clouds of little white things will be cruising around.
Then add you daphnia.
Add a lettuce leaf each day to feed the infusoria.

You can do combinations as well. Have lawn fertiliser and lettuce leaves in the water. YOu don't even have to use lettuce leaves, any sort of plants matter will do.

thanks alot

The green water ponds can be used for rotifers as well.

The infusoria cultures should be covered with mosquito netting otherwise they will become infested with yummy mozzie larvae :)

Gammaris/amphipods can be cultured in a pond with rotting lettuce leaves. They eat the leaves and breed prolifically when ample food is available. Bloodworms (Chirominid midge larvae) will occur in well established cultures of infusoria where they live and feed on the rotting leaves.
