Can anyone give me any info? I saw some in my lf and would like to get some but the sales person in there didn't seem to know what she was talking about.

Mikrogeophagus ramirezi

Synonyms: Apistogramma ramirezi, Microgeophagus ramirezi, Papilochromis ramirezi
Family: Cichlidae
Origin: Columbia, South America.
Main Ecosystem: River
Temperament: Relatively peaceful when not breeding.
Diet: Carnivore
Care: Feed with flakes. Plant tank with dense clumps of plants, but leave some room for swimming. Some hiding places are also needed. Hard to keep. Use a good water conditioner when changing the water as the Blue Ram is very sensitive to chemicals.
pH: 5.0 - 6.0
Temperature: 25.0°C - 29.0°C (77°F - 84°F)
Hardness: 5.0°dH - 12.0°dH
Potential Size: 3.5cm (1.4")
Water Region: Middle-Bottom
Activity: Diurnal
Breeding: Hard. To initiate breeding try a pH of 7.0. The eggs are laid on a carefully cleaned stone.
Gender: The male's dorsal fin is much longer than the female's. Females are smaller and have a reddish tinge on their stomach.
Comments: Very pretty, but will usually only live for around 3 years.

HTH, Eddie

No probs - I didn't know that until someone else told me :)

As has been said many times, the only stupid question is the one that isn't asked (excluding mine of course).

Cheers, Eddie
