My fishless cycle has been goin fine until now

a few days ago i got at 1.0 in 12hrs for my nitrites, but it has stayed at that for the last few days

iv kept my eye on the ph,

today it looked aroung 7.8, so i used B/S to get back up to aroung 8,2,

but 7.8 should not be causing problems

My nitrite stuck at one point for ages, seemed to take forever to shift,it takes longer to go down than the ammonia, your ph is fine, its only when it goes 6 or below i think it stalls.

It will move before long.,just a waiting game :)

Another member said that the N-Bacs might be struggling due to high nitrates, mine are over 80ppm at the min,

Would doing a large water change to bring the nitrates down help my N-Bacs growth?

I'll put it this way, it won't hurt :good: What was the actual Nitrate reading at your last test, and what was Nitrite on at that point?

All the best

Good, I agree with rabbut.

If your first post is correct and you are on about Day 23 of fishless cycling then I would not worry so much about it, lots of cycles take much longer and as Harlequin said, you can get into periods when it seems to be doing the wrong thing but it will eventually get back on track, given time.

well my test results this morn were even higher and even at 4PM there was still a tint of colours in ammonia and nitrite.

my plants and everything are coming 2moz and i dint want to add them till i got 0/0 in 12hrs

Plants are no problem during a fishless cycle. Just be sure to mention that you have them when you ask questions about progress or when you post chemistry test results. That way we can take the plants being present into account when trying to figure out what advice to give.

Water changes can cause temperary cycle slow-downs, but the bacteria will bounce back. It's just that you have disterbed them during the water change. The thing is that that water change should now have them growing again, rather than sitting there with their growth stagnated :good:
