After having some Cherry shirmp for a few days, i have decided to go for more, this time Crystal Reds (seperate tank)

I have found someone local selling 2 groups, 1 youngsters the other adults, am thinking of getting both, but i don't understand the whole grading thing

There advertised as A Grades, can someone explain and also confirm this from these pics :good:
Adults :)

Also what sort of price should i expect to pay

I know it sounds silly being A grade but i think they are pretty low on the scale and i think it goes up to SS and such

I think price wise, something like £2-3 each, like double the price of cherries, for babies, more for adults.

If you chek google you could prob find the scale to check against the pics, but they dont look like A grade to me

I'd say they were b or less but the higher the grading the more expensive but even with a low grade bath you can select for better colouring :)

From what i understand, the More white, the higher the grade.

Look like standard grade to me,Nice and healthy looking.

+1 to above, these shrimp look very healthy but aren't that high grade as they have some see through patches and no desirable markings. However if these are going for around £2-3 i wouldn't sat no. I bought sligthly lower grade ones than those for 3 for £5.50ish

The best grade to get are SSS, these will be almost all white with very little red with these you also have "flower" and crown" types. Then there is SS grade which has more red than the SSS and in the SS grade there is two types "Hinomauru" and "Hinomauru No Entery" that are strived for. Now come the S grade which more red again and in this group you have quite a few further gradings such as S+ Tiger Tooth, S+V Band, S 3 white band, S 4 white band. And now we are down to the cheaper grades of the lot the A grade, in this grade you have A grade 3 White bands, A grade 4 white bands. After these you have B grade and these have poor distrubution of red and white bands with very few if any at all fully white bands. And lastly there are C grade and these are almost all red with only a couple of very fine white bands, this grade is basically what all the other grades have been developed from.

Hope this helps

Thanks all for the explanations on the grading :good:

i am going to sound very silly here but i think i prefer these ones as to the 1s with thicker stripes

Not silly at all, just cos they are a 'high' grade doesnt matter. They look really healthy, how much are they priced at?

Personally I prefer the A grade 3 or 4 white bands, and if I can ever track down some crystal reds over here that is what I'd be wanting to get. I am guessing that even though the parents maybe one grade, that the offspring you could end up with all sorts of grades.
