I discovered this picture on a site for wallpapers, and was blown away by the beauty of it. Being somewhat new to fishkeeping, and beyond clueless about LIVE plants in fishkeeping, I have no idea what this stuff is. Id like to get some feedback, not on exactly what is used in this picture, but what I could use and how to tweak it, to get a similar effect. That is, the effect of a grassy hill with tree, in miniature, in a fishtank. The sand and rocks are easy obviously, but what plants could mimic grass, and bushes, and even a tiny "tree" like shown? Thank you in advance for any help you can offer!!

I have seen this before and think its is awesome!!

Dwarf hairgrass is a small grass like plant and I expect you could keep it cut shorter to control it. Lilaeopsis brasiliensis would also work for grass.

The 'tree' you could get a lovely piece of wood and attach moss to it, when the moss grows to would become bushier! The same with the bits on the rocks. I think christmas moss would work quite well

There are a few plants that grow in a sort of bush but tbh I'm not sure of names. Have a look on plantedtanks they are pretty good for plants!!

Check out AGA, Aquascaper Growers Association. They run a contest every year and post the entries on line. Nothing short of amazing. If you post this query in the Plant section of the forum you will get some responses by some very talented people on how to get what you want but don't expect it to be easy.

I'm just starting with real plants, to do something like that you need a lot of imagination, about the plants you can use dwarf hairgrass or any other carpeting plant even moss, but i'll keep the moss to put over the wood, when it grows it'll cover it like that.

Isn't it strange what one person thinks is awesome another dislikes! I dont like it simply because it doesn't look natural. I like the natural look and to me that looks like the fish swimming round in the park!

Thanks for the input guys, I definitely think the "tree" is wood with christmas moss, I just googled it and it looks exactly right!

dwarf hairgrass also seems perfect, are there any other kinds of "grass" i could use, for variety? i think i might do a couple "trees" one short and bushy like that, and maybe one that mimics a weeping something. are there any aquatic plants that you can think of that would drape like a weeping willow? and not try to grow upwards?

that tank is quite famous, its by a chap called filipe oliveira. These style of tanks are not as easy as you would think. This tank was dosed with high C02, Nitrate, Phosphate etc. The flow in a tank like this has to be spot one.

have a read of this...

How Filpie makes this a winner is by following the 'golder rule' and he has done this absolutely spot on with this tank. This is what makes it a winner, because when you think about it, there's not actually to much to this tank.
